The Harmonic Minor Scale

The Harmonic minor is generally used in classical music, but there are several rock musicians that will use this because of it's unusual flavor. Malmsteen uses this, and by doing it with heavy metal, has created his own sound. Randy Rhodes also used this quite a bit in his early days with Ozzy.

As elsewhere on this site, all you have to do is simply place the root note on the orange dots, and you can play in any key you like...the harmonic Minor will work well with power chords.

Notice that the E strings match up top and bottom with the same notes...use this little tidbit of information to help yourself get familiar with the fretboard. All of the patterns, and modes are extremely similar...if you sit down and look for similar patterns, you will progress quickly.

Also, see if you can see the pattern of where the root notes are in relation to each other...notice how they are different when you look at the high E string, and the B string...this will also help you in learning where the notes are on the fretboard.
