Scales

There are a number of different scales to
learn if you want to spend the time doing so. However if you get a book that
has all of the scales and modes in it, you'll notice that they are presented in
only one particular key.
So the question becomes: Once I learn the
finger patterns, how do I apply them to different keys?
Well, to figure
out the answer to that question, all you need to know is where the root is
within the pattern of the scale.
There are two patterns that seem to
work the most, and they aren't really the typical finger patterns that you'll
find in a book.
The first pattern is a minor pattern, and would be
played over major chords. If the song is in the key of Cmajor, just put the C
note where the orange dot is, and the pattern will always work.
This can
be applied to any song, in any key...just put the root note in the proper
place, and start playing. |

| If the song you are playing is in a minor key, use
this pattern, just put the root note where the orange dot is...it'll work just
the same. |
