Gretsch
Electromatic Hollowbody Guitar
 |
I went looking for a hollowbody guitar, and
played several different brands in the store, not wanting to spend too much
money, I was initially leaning toward an Ibanez hollowbody (got a couple of RGs
hangin' around the house that just plain shred, and two Fenders that I love as
well (check out the new Showmaster, I bought one last week, and WOW).
Anyway, I decided to spend a the extra bucks on the
Gretsch
Electromatic...It came set up pretty good, but needed some
minor tweaking. The neck on this guitar is almost the same feel as the Ibanez
RG series... thin, fast, and smooth, with nice, low action...I love the Bigsby
Trem too (remember, this is a blues and jazz guitar (don't expect the trem to
work the same as the one on your metal axe).
The
Gretsch Electromatic
Hollowbody sounds great unplugged, not the same as my
Ovation, but its not supposed to is it?...plugged it in, gave it some crunch
and cranked it up through a just a small
VOX AD15 practice
amp that I got at the same time (a great little tube amp by the way)...WOW,
AC/DC and Rush rythyms rock...then I played clean, and was equally
impressed...I like Wes Montgomery (Wes was a big influence on Tony
Iommi...(check Wes out, and hear the similarities...the beginnings of a new era
for guitarists)...
This is my seventh guitar, and a welcome addition to
the family. For the money, I think this is a great looking, sounding, guitar
that plays extremely well, and has lots of tone. It feels like it'll last for
years, maybe I'll even get to pass it on to my kid someday. Check it out for
yourself, and if you decide to get it, you won't be sorry. Just keep a towel
handy for when your buddies drool on it. |
